The chess shops on Thompson are kind of spooky to me in a way, but also kind of great. One of the great things about chess, is that they don't really care who you are — if you're 8 years old, Russian, if you're from Zimbabwe, etc — as long as you play. My boys have been playing since they were young. They would come here to watch the guys play, and eventually the men would ask them to play too. In that sense, there's something completely beautiful about it. In an increasing chain store world, they stand out.
