The National Says

The beach at Jacob Riis Park is nice, clean and easy to get to by train with a short walk or bike ride. It's usually not as crowded as other beaches, and it has a very large parking lot that's never completely full. We like to visit this beach a couple times during the summer. —Scott Devendorf

I lived in Long Island for 16 years, so I feel that I really know beaches, and Riis is amazing. I am shocked at the size, and depth. I also really like the fact that you dont have to walk to the end of the earth for the gay part-it is right there, at the east part of the boardwalk. I am looking forward to the summer.

reiss park has been allowed to fall into a state of disrepair. The handball courts are over grown and the fencing around the courts are rusting away. The shuffle board corts are over grown. The concession stands are closed with rusty gates. The pool has been allowed to waste away .what a shame. This place is a blight on the city

There is nothing more beautiful than the Dunes at Riis Park. However, I noticed that the Dunes are dissapearing after each hard winter. I am so upset about this. I have been comming for a few years and have noticed that there is no one who cleans the sands by the Dunes side. I understand why there are no garbage pails directly on the Dune side due to the high tides, however, it is filled with dibris. My husband and I bring 5 large garbage bags a week and fill them up. Yet, we only cover one area. I wish the park would do something about this. The debris is poluting our beautiful clean water. That beach is filled with artifacts from Hog island and should be preserved.
