I live in SoHo and my downtown Italian restaurant of choice is Bar Pitti. This one is a no-brainer really—especially in the spring and fall, when I make excellent use of their sun-filled sidewalk terrace. The atmosphere is fashionable, yet casual, and the food is deliciously authentic. You just can't beat it. I've been faithfully coming here for years and will continue to do so, particularly for their special Rigatoni Pitti or Panna Cotta drenched in warm chocolate.
