The New York Dog Spa and Hotel is where I take my dog when I go away, cause I travel so much. It wouldn't be my first choice, but I'm not a dog. You go there and there's a huge pen for all the dogs and they just play, they love each other, all the dogs. They're very attentive, the people that own it. They know the dogs and they're loyal to the dogs. A friend of mine who has an antique store next door watches when they take [my dog] Billy out. She spies on them to make sure that they're taking good care of him. And he loves it there. He just loves it there. I'm just grateful that he's in good hands, cause the one time I took him to another place he almost died. The New York Dog Spa and Hotel is fantastic. He comes back healthy and happy.

I used to work for the New York Dog Spa & Hotel. The first thing you need to know is that your dog goes through an “assessment” and can be determined to be a “Do Not Mix” dog. This means that your dog is not allowed to play with the other dogs. Unfortunately, the owners of the dog are not informed of this decision. This means that, although you think your dog is in a large room playing all day with other dogs, he is in fact locked in a cage FOR MOST OF THE DAY. He gets out for 5 min 4 times a day in the room by himself and out for a 5 min walk twice a day IF HE’S LUCKY. I was actually chastised by a manager for informing an owner that her dog was labled “Do Not Mix”. She was not aware of the situation and I stood there and watched the manager LIE to the owner and come up with a bs definition of Do Not Mix. He said it meant her dog couldn’t be mixed with the group that was in the room at the moment.
Also, when your dog is fed and watered (which happens twice a day), if your dog is rambunctuous and accidentally tips over his bowl of food or water - it does not get replenished. It gets swept up and the dog simply doesn’t get to eat. I’ve known dogs to miss BOTH of their feedings because of this.
It’s sad. I love dogs and wish I could do more for the animals that are mistakenly placed in the care of New York Dog Spa & Hotel. There are several other places in the Chelsea area where you could board your dog and I STRONGLY suggest that you do so if you care about your pet.
