The Metropolitan Museum of Art's endless treasures and stellar exhibits offer historical context. Recently on view was Cezanne to Picasso, which encompasses many of my favorite artists. The name of my company, Felix Rey, actually comes from a Van Gogh painting usually housed at the Pushkin. Felix Rey was the doctor who treated Van Gogh when he cut his ear and Van Gogh thanked him by painting his portrait. Interestingly enough, Dr. Rey's mother was so disgusted with the painting she used it to cover a hole in their chicken coup! Lucky for New Yorker's, it's on view at the Met until January as a part of the Vollard exhibit. The painting is bold, vivid, and inspirational.
