If you like cheese it's the best cheese selection in New York (Artisanal and Picholine are owned by the same people). The secret to Picholine is that it is always packed but if you go there right before 8 all the theater crowd departs. You can get a seat at the bar and you just order the seven cheese plate. They'll come out with the cheese cart and the fromagier talks about all the cheeses. You pick your seven cheeses and they come out and it's a full meal. You have your different wines with your cheeses. It's not that crazy expensive because you're just eating the cheese. My wife Beth and I go there for anniversaries and Valentines. You don't even have to book in advance. You just show up and you can just get a table if you go right at the right time.
