Bio by Jessica Henderson

A southern gentleman at heart—and often on his sleeve—actor Anson Mount moved to New York 11 years ago to pursue his graduate degree in acting at Columbia University, and still lives in the area where: "The nicest thing about my apartment is a window in my bathtub that looks out on St. John the Divine Cathedral." And while he may get homesick from time to time for his beloved Tennessee, don't feel too sorry him. After all, he's kissed Britney Spears in Crossroads (a part Robert De Niro encouraged him to take), shared a sizzling onscreen love scene with Cameron Diaz in In Her Shoes and has the upcoming Toronto film festival hit, All the Boys Love Mandy Lane, and even a campy horror flick, Hood of Horrors—costarring Snoop Dog, no less—in the can.

When he's not off shooting, this Renaissance man pursues his other passions, photography and writing. "I just took last summer off and went back to Sewanee, The University of the South, to pick up my first two credits toward my MFA in Creative Writing. There, I got to study with my favorite living poet: Andrew Hudgins," says Mount. Or, he may simply be hunting down a rental at his favorite haunt, The Movie Place. "It's the best video store in the world. I like to choose an actor, and see everything that they've ever done before I go off to shoot a film."

So, what exactly is the appeal of New York City for this country boy? "I love that you can walk down the block and hear six different languages. There's always something to be discovered here," says Mount. "To be honest, I miss Tennessee constantly. But when I feel extra homesick, I go down to Doc Holliday's." So if the next time you're there, you spy a handsome, wistful man standing over the jukebox and feeding it quarters to play classic country hits by Hank Williams, Jr. or Dwight Yoakum, make sure you buy him a Pabst on us—and tell him he's home.
